Nakheel’s Mohammed Rashed highlights the company’s latest projects and focus on sustainability

There’s been a spate of new launches coming out of Nakheel – Tilal Al Furjan, Murooj Al Furjan and the new townhouses at Jebel Ali Village. What has the response to these launches been?
The response to the launch of our new projects, Tilal Al Furjan and Murooj Al Furjan and the new townhouses at Jebel Ali Village, has indeed been overwhelming and all three projects are sold out.

What is the progress on these projects?
The construction is progressing as per schedule. On-site work has commenced at Murooj Al Furjan West, with foundation and preparatory infrastructure work currently in progress. Foundation work has already crossed the halfway mark and is well ahead of schedule. When complete, Murooj Al Furjan will feature community parks, private gardens, and pedestrian-friendly walkways, in addition to the indoor space being maximised with generous terraces and landscaped areas. The finest materials have been selected to ensure exceptional finishes.

We are re-developing Jebel Ali Village and are awarding the contractors at this stage to kick off phase one works in the fourth quarter of this year. The revitalised Jebel Ali Village will offer residents a luxurious lifestyle experience with homes set amongst rolling hills and lush green spaces. It will integrate the values of our rich heritage with modernity through a host of amenities tailored for families.

We are awarding the contractors for Tilal Al Furjan to commence construction works with the final handover estimated to be around the end of 2024. Everything about Tilal Al Furjan is elevated. The lush green community combines stylish homes with expansive communal spaces, unrivalled amenities and easy connectivity.

Both Tilal Al Furjan and Murooj Al Furjan are gated communities that overlook the Al Furjan master community. Both communities offer an ocean of lush green landscaping, perfectly located within a well-established neighbourhood in Dubai. Further updates on these projects will be shared in due course.

What have been the biggest challenges for Nakheel on the path to recovery from the pandemic?
The pandemic has fundamentally changed how we live, work and play. Taking this into consideration, we have adapted accordingly. Our teams are working diligently to ensure all projects are delivered as per agreed timelines, with appropriate procedures in place to protect our employees.

Today, Dubai is witnessing a period of robust growth, with the GDP growing by 5.9 per cent in the first quarter of this year. All core sectors, such as tourism, retail, hospitality and real estate, have gained traction, which is reflected in the increased tourist arrivals, with the emirate welcoming 7.12 million international visitors in the first half of the year, and property sales recording a growth of  25 per cent in the second quarter of 2022.

How has the company adopted sustainable practices?
Sustainability is key to our strategic framework, both across our existing communities as well as across our projects which are under construction, and in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

We endeavour to instil a culture of conscious and sustainable living across our communities, with a strong emphasis on sustainable waste management which is not only important to ensure a quality living experience but also contributes to Dubai’s environmental efforts. Additionally, our teams run regular awareness campaigns to ensure residents are made aware to adopt recycling practices and understand what items can be recycled, and what to avoid.

For our upcoming projects, before we undertake any construction works, an environmental impact assessment is conducted for the master plan. Before construction begins, the authorities carry out an inspection to ensure suitable quality and assurance measures are in place. We continuously monitor the impact on the wider environment throughout construction.
