The second edition of the Dubai Metro Music Festival will be held from March 16-22.

It will feature a line-up of 20 local, regional and internationals musicians, performing live at five Dubai Metro stations: Expo 2020 Dubai, Jebel Ali, Mall of the Emirates, Burjuman and Union.

The performances will feature string, percussion, wind and other instruments and will take place from 4pm to 10pm across the designated metro stations.

The Dubai Metro Music Festival is organised by Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO), in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The musicians at the Festival include traditional and experimental artists, street performers, classical instrumentalists and fusion specialists.

They will perform both traditional and non-traditional genres of music, and all the performances will be rotated across the seven days of the festival to cover the five metro stations, according to Dubai Media Office.

“The initiative is part of a series of joint projects we have undertaken in cooperation with Brand Dubai to promote culture, art, creativity, heritage and aesthetic appreciation in the city in new unique ways. We continue to work with partners like Brand Dubai to enhance the platform offered by the city for art and music to flourish, while also enriching the creative environment in the city by making global performing arts more accessible to the community,” said Rowdah Al Mehrizi, director of Marketing and Corporate Communication, Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector at the RTA.

The metro is one of the key public transport lifelines of the city. The number of metro riders on both the Red and Green Lines reached 151.3 million riders in 2021. The Burjuman and Union stations (interchange stations on the Red and Green Lines) accounted for the biggest number of metro riders last year. About 8.8 million riders used Burjuman Station on both the Red and Green Lines, while 7.5 million riders used the Union Station across both lines. The Dubai Metro accounted for a 33 per cent of the total number of riders that used public transport in Dubai last year.
