Home UAE Dubai Dubai Police foils plot to steal and smuggle Dhs1.3m Lamborghini car out of the country In a raid, officials took down four suspects and seized forged car plates and forging tools at their residence by Staff writer March 9, 2021 The Dubai Police has foiled an “international criminal plot” to steal and smuggle luxury cars outside the UAE using fake licence plates. Suspects involved in the operation were arrested as they were trying to steal their first luxury car worth Dhs1.3m, officials said. Dubai’s Command and Control Centre received a tip-off from a car rental office claiming the theft of a Lamborghini car, valued at Dhs1.3m, which was rented to an Eastern-European person. “The investigation team was able to determine the car location despite the gang members’ use of modern techniques to conceal its whereabouts and prevent inference of its location,” said Brigadier Jamal Salem Al Jalaf, director of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Dubai Police. Officials used artificial intelligence technologies to track and arrest the suspects. Al Jalaf said they determined the suspects’ identities and closely monitored their movements and activities before they located their place of residence. “They took a residential place in a luxury area as a criminal base for their plot,” Al Jalaf said, adding that all suspects hold the same Eastern European nationality. In a raid, officials took down four suspects and seized some forged car plates and forging tools at their residence. “They planned to smuggle the car professionally outside the country using the forged plates they had prepared,” added Colonel Adel Al-Joker, acting director of CID.
