Bahrain records its hottest August in 119 years

Bahrain experienced its hottest-ever August in 119 years last month, the Meteorological Directorate has said.

The mean temperature of the month stood at 36.8 degree celsius, which is 1.7 degrees above the long-term normal for August, and the highest ever experienced in Bahrain since 1902, the Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported.

Previously, the highest mean temperature for August, at 36.6 degrees, was recorded in 2017.

The average maximum temperature in August 2021 reached 41.8 degrees – 2.2 degrees above the long-term normal and the highest since 1946.

The highest temperature recorded last month was 45.5 degrees on August 2 at Bahrain International Airport. This is only exceeded by August 9, 1993 with 45.7 degrees and August 15, 2016 with 45.6 degrees.

During the month, Bahrain had 26 days with a maximum temperature exceeding 40 degrees – another highest since 1946.

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 33.4 degrees, 1.9 degrees above the long-term normal.
