The Saudi-led coalition intercepted an explosives-laden drone targeting its Abha international airport, local media reported early on Thursday.

The coalition said falling debris from the drone shattered the glass of some of the windows, injuring four workers at the airport, the official Saudi Press Agency reported.

“The Houthi attempt to target civilians at Abha Airport constitutes a war crime,” the coalition said.

“We are taking operational measures to neutralise the threat sources used in the attempted attack on Abha airport,” it added.

State TV Al-Ekhbariyah confirmed that traffic had resumed to normal at the airport after operations were halted briefly due to the attack.

Saudi Arabia – and specifically the Abha airport – has seen repeated drone and missile strikes in recent months.

On August 31, a drone attack on the airport injured eight people and damaged an Airbus 320 civilian aircraft.
