Significant investments have been made in the development of IT infrastructure, as well as emerging technologies. Given the increased emphasis on the technology sector, Gulf Business is poised to launch the GB Tech Awards 2021 to celebrate the industry’s accomplishments. The event will take place at the Headlines Executive, Ibis, Dubai World Trade Centre on October 20, at 6pm. The GB Tech Awards will honour and celebrate the success of businesses and individuals in 22 categories in areas such as digital transformation, cloud, cybersecurity, blockchain, and artificial intelligence, among others. The event will recognise technological and commercial innovation and entrepreneurial excellence. The awards and the categories chosen are based on current market trends including. These include consumer tech (the Middle East and Africa personal computing devices market recorded year-on-year growth of 36.6 per cent in Q1 2021 ); enterprise tech (investments in digital transformation and innovation will account for 30 per cent of all IT spending in the MEA and Turkey by 2024); digital transformation (although there was a move towards digital penetration even before Covid-19, the pandemic has accelerated the process); Cloud (Spending on public cloud services will grow 26.7 per cent to top $3.7bn in the MEA and Turkey region this year); and fintech (the MENA fintech sector will reach $2.5bn by 2022), among others. The judging panel for the GB Tech Awards include two industry experts from esteemed GCC organisations – Dr Lt Hamad Khalifa Al Nuaimi, head of Telecommunications division, ICT centre, Abu Dhabi Police HQ and Dr Jassim Haji, president, Artificial Intelligence Society, Bahrain.
